Ed Casey is Distinguished Visiting Faculty at Pacifica. He is also Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at SUNY, Stony Brook, where he was chairperson of the department for ten years. He was the president of the American Philosophical Association (Eastern Division) from 2009-10, and the John Dewey Lecturer at the APA in 2015. He works in aesthetics, philosophy of space and time, philosophy of perception, environmental philosophy, and psychoanalytic theory. He is the author of ten books, among them聽听(2005),听(2002),听聽(2nd ed. 2001),聽聽(2nd ed. 2000),聽聽(2nd ed. 2000),聽聽(2007), and most recently聽The World on Edge聽(2017). With Mary Watkins he wrote聽Up Against the Wall:聽Re-Imagining the U.S.-Mexico Border Wall (2014).聽He is perhaps best known for his descriptions of the role of place in human experience;聽(1993) and聽聽(1997) are the two major expressions of this research. He is currently writing books on emotion and thinking-in-transit.
